HERE TO HELP ANSWER YOUR QUESTIONS
What type of pets do you see?
We currently provide veterinary care for dogs and cats only. Our team focuses on small animal medicine, so we can offer advanced, personalized care for the pets we see most often in Nokomis, North Venice, and Venice.
How do I schedule an appointment?
At this time, we do not offer online self-booking. To schedule an appointment, please:
- Call or text the clinic during business hours
- Let us know if the visit is for wellness, a new concern, a follow-up, or something urgent
- Share your preferred days and times, and we’ll work to find a slot that fits your schedule
New clients may also be asked to complete our New Client Form so we can prepare for your first visit.
What should I bring to my pet’s first visit?
For your first appointment at Laurel Road Veterinary Clinic, it’s helpful to bring:
- Any previous medical records or vaccination history
- A list of current medications, supplements, or preventatives
- Any questions or concerns you’d like to discuss with the veterinarian
If your pet is anxious or fearful, feel free to bring a favorite blanket or treats to help them feel more comfortable.
What are your payment options?
Payment is due at the time of service. For your convenience, we accept:
- Cash
- Personal checks
- All major credit cards (including American Express)
- CareCredit®
- Scratchpay
We’re happy to provide treatment plans and estimates, and to discuss options before moving forward with non-urgent procedures.
Do you have a new client special?
Yes. Laurel Road Veterinary Clinic currently offers a first exam coupon for new clients, limited to one pet per household.
- The promotion applies to the exam fee only.
- Any additional diagnostics, treatments, or medications are billed separately.
- A valid coupon must be presented at the time of your visit.
For full details about this promotion, please visit our Specials page or contact our team.
Do you offer an online pharmacy?
Yes. Laurel Road Veterinary Clinic partners with a trusted online pharmacy so you can conveniently order approved medications, preventatives, and diets for home delivery.
You’ll find the link to our online pharmacy on our Online Pharmacy page or in the header/top bar once it’s active with our current provider.
Ordering through our recommended pharmacy ensures:
- Products are authentic and manufacturer-backed
- Your pet’s prescriptions are reviewed by our veterinary team
- You maintain continuity of care with our clinic
How often should my pet have a wellness exam?
For most healthy adult dogs and cats, we recommend:
- Annual wellness exams to monitor health, update vaccines, and adjust preventatives.
Puppies, kittens, senior pets, and pets with chronic conditions may need to be seen more frequently. Your veterinarian will tailor a schedule based on your pet’s age, lifestyle, and health status.

Do you accept walk-ins?
We are primarily an appointment-based practice. This helps us keep visits running smoothly and reduces stress for both pets and pet owners.
If your pet has an urgent concern, please call or text us before coming in. We’ll let you know if we can see your pet the same day or if we recommend visiting a local emergency facility.
Do you offer emergency or urgent care?
We offer daytime emergency and urgent care for dogs and cats during our normal business hours.
If your pet has an urgent problem:
- Call or text us immediately so we can advise you and, when possible, prepare for your arrival.
- For after-hours emergencies, please contact a 24-hour veterinary emergency hospital in the area, as we are not open overnight.
If you’re ever unsure whether something is an emergency, call us — we’re happy to help you decide on the next step.
Do you accept pet insurance?
Yes, we are happy to work with clients who have pet insurance.
Here’s how it typically works:
- You pay for your pet’s visit at the time of service.
- We provide a detailed invoice and medical notes as needed.
- You submit a claim directly to your insurance provider.
- Your provider reimburses you in accordance with your policy.
Because plans vary, please contact your insurance company directly with questions about coverage and benefits.
How do prescription refills and preventatives work?
For refills on medications or parasite preventatives, please:
- Call or text the clinic, or
- Request a refill through our online pharmacy (if applicable)
In most cases, we request 24–48 hours’ notice for refills so our veterinarians can review your pet’s records and ensure the medication is still appropriate. Some medications require periodic exams or lab work for safety.
What is the pet portal and how do I use it?
We offer a pet portal through our reminder service provider, which allows you to:
- View upcoming appointments
- Review vaccine reminders
- Access parts of your pet’s medical information
You can access the portal via the My Pet Portal link on our website. If you’re having trouble logging in or need help setting up your account, please contact our team, and we’ll be happy to assist.
Can you help with my pet’s behavior or anxiety?
Yes. We offer behavioral counseling and are happy to discuss concerns such as:
- Anxiety or fear
- Reactivity to other animals or people
- Litter box issues
- Age-related behavior changes
We’ll first rule out any medical causes, then work with you on a behavior and management plan, and when appropriate, may suggest collaboration with trainers or specialists.
